Working with Families and children with Additional needs , and seeing first hand the negative impact a lack of supportive services has on these families it was important to me to be part of a service that wants to remove barriers and empower families
As a mother, aunt, friend, and personal support assistant, I have seen the challenges faced by those with additional needs in accessing services. My journey began when I met Gaynor, who inspired a parent support group that evolved into MySensability. This initiative was born from our shared experiences raising neurodivergent children and aims to help families navigate a challenging system. MySensability provides a sanctuary for families to connect, recharge, and ultimately empowers them to thrive.and I am honored to be part of the journey of MYSENsability.
Being a parent to a child with additional needs has shaped who I am and why I’m so passionate about working with MYSENsability. My own journey — navigating EBSA, ADHD and ASD presentation in girls — showed me just how isolating and overwhelming the system can feel when support is hard to find. As a primary school teacher, I saw first-hand the challenges children with additional needs face within education. Those experiences reinforced my belief in the importance of early support, inclusion, and the principle that every child matters. When I met Gaynor through her drop-in service, it changed everything. For the first time, I felt truly heard and supported. I found not only guidance, but a community that became like family. The confidence and strength I gained through that support now inspires me to give back. I want to help empower families to navigate their journeys with confidence. Being part of MYSENsability means breaking down barriers, and reminding parents that their voice truly matters.
